In Te Reo Maori, ADHD is known as 'Aroreretini'
which translates to 'Attention Goes to Many Things'.
This is such a fitting description and one that captures the essence of ADHD. It's not so much a lack of attention that I find my clients struggle with the most, rather an overflow of attention, all vying for focus.
This abundance of stimuli creates a constant competition for one's attention, leading to the challenge of determining what to prioritize and when.
To put it simply, ADHD isn't about a deficit in attention, but rather a surplus of it - a whirlwind of possibilities that can be the catalyst for creative brilliance yet also result in restlessness and the feeling of being overwhelmed.
